If I could change one thing about our legal system, what would it be? Nothing.
Our legal system is a thing of great beauty that’s tossed into a sludge hole.
Our system has a non-negotiable soul. It is the value system of the Golden Rule, of treating your neighbor the way you want to be treated. It’s about justice. Simply put, if you follow the Golden Rule, the system is going to work.
And, let me say this: reactionaries on both sides do not see the forest from the trees. For example, let me tell you what I think about the third strike law. Does a third strke violation of stealing a slice of pizza stand equal to that of breaking and entering? Absolutely not. A slice of pizza is not a third strike.
Regardless of your politics, the faults that plague our system is NOT the system itself. The fault is in human nature.
